The safety of all residents, business owners and visitors is a top priority for Prosper’s first responders. The police and fire departments work seamlessly to provide protection of lives and property with the highest level of professionalism and ethical standards.
In May 2018, Prosper voters approved a half-cent of the Town’s sales tax collection be allocated to help fund public safety. The half-cent is split to allocate .25 percent of the Town’s sales tax to a Crime Control and Prevention District and a Fire Control, Prevention and Emergency Medical Services District.
Community engagement is also an essential part of the job for Prosper’s public safety leadership and staff. Prosper holds an ISO Class 1/1X rating. Most homes and businesses benefit from a preferred rate on homeowners insurance when their community receives this Insurance Services Office (ISO) top rating.
The Prosper Police Department is a “Recognized Law Enforcement Agency” by the Texas Police Chiefs Association. It’s the highest level designation awarded by the TPCA and means the Prosper Police Department achieved the designation by achieving all 168 best business practices for law enforcement. The 23,000 sf Public Safety Complex is home to our police headquarters and 911 communications and dispatch. The Prosper Police Department was recently recognized in the Law Enforcement Design Awards
Prosper Fire Rescue is one of only 23 recognized fire departments for Best Practices by the Texas Fire Chiefs Association. The TFCA Best Practices designation means independent fire safety experts verified and validated Prosper Fire is using the most current best practices in the profession and is above and beyond in meeting its professional obligations to the Town’s residences and businesses.
Prosper Fire Department operates two fire stations and also houses the Office of the Prosper Fire Marshal and the Town’s emergency operations coordinator.
